At the start of 2005, Chris and I prepared for the Mud Run at Camp Pendleton, but we weren't alone...we were joined by my mother, my cousin, and 5 of my personal training clients. What an awesome way for all of us to challenge ourselves together! I am proud of the fact that each and every person stepped up and completed the course with good standings in their own age divisions.

The run itself was 6.2 miles in length and included a few obstacles along the way (steep hills, walls, river crossings, and a mud pit just to name a few), but the hardest part was definitely the numerous hills throughout the main portion of the course. It was one of the things I actually had to train differently for because I am not, at heart, a runner. I am more of a sprint athlete and it took me several months to build up the endurance and determination to run the entire course. It's a new fitness level for all of us and a great way to share the experience at any age.

My Family - Tony, Mom, Chris & Me before the race

At the start - yes, we are in there somewhere!

How do you think they get mud in So Cal?

No need to stay dry.

I made it over on
the first try, too!

Yes, that's me crawling out of the mud pit...

....and draining the muddy water from
my shorts

Carolyn couldn't
avoid this mud!

I never thought I'd
be so happy to see
the finish line!

I was extremely proud of my mom, Ivette!
(Remember that shirt WAS white!)

My cousin, Tony, has reconsidered wearing running shoes for the next race!

Chris & Carolyn can't wait to hit the ice-cold showers!
