The Way I Was Raised:
Born in the Bronx, New York, my mother taught me right from the start how
to fight for what I want but not to step on others along the way. We moved
several times in my childhood, always to a better part of town and to better
living conditions, but I was never without the necessities in life...my
parents saw to that. My mother sacrificed whole paychecks to keep me in
gymnastics and dance, so that I could be active and disciplined. When we
moved to Los Angeles in 1980, new opportunities came along for both of
my parents and we continued to thrive as a growing family. I wasn't raised
in the worst parts of town but I was exposed to elements of gang and criminal
life living in L.A. Through it all, I knew I had a safe, loving home to
go to and parents who cared enough to ask questions and be involved.
Being the oldest of three girls with two hard-working parents, I was the
protector and somewhat of a "tomboy" growing up, though I certainly
didn't dress like one. In fact, you'd often find me on the field in a pretty
dress with a pair of shorts underneath. I remember while most girls wanted
to be Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, I actually wanted to play the game! My
love for sports and dance has followed me throughout the years and eventually
led me to my career in fitness and competition.
Undoubtedly, my talents are found in sports and physical activities, while
my sisters excel in other arenas...Taryn Christine is a beautiful fashion
model in Europe and Whitney is an extraordinary artist and aspiring fashion
designer and graduate of FIDM Los Angeles. I believe the wealth of our
talents demonstrates the undying devotion our parents had to our success.
We are lucky to have them in our lives.
